چکیده
This appendix contains tables and figures that supplement the analysis in the paper. Section A presents the asset pricing test results with equity issuance cost shocks constructed using alternative definitions of equity issuance. Section B presents the asset pricing test results with equity issuance cost shocks constructed by taking averages of portfolio-level equity issuance shocks across portfolios sorted by various firm characteristics. Section C presents the asset pricing test results for equity issuance cost shocks after controlling for other return factors or macroeconomic shocks. Section D presents the asset pricing test results using debt issuance cost shocks.

Monetary Policy and Asset Prices with Imperfect Credit Markets
prices? As it stands, the theorem provides an important benchmark and enforces careful thinking about financial markets’ workings and the imperfections that would create a world where a firm’s financial position (hence equity prices) affects its ability to engage in production. Many possible imperfections could generate such a world. This article focuses on failures of information. Suppose that...
متن کاملQuantitative implications of a debt-deflation theory of Sudden Stops and asset prices
This paper shows that the quantitative predictions of an equilibrium asset-pricing model with financial frictions are consistent with key features of the Sudden Stop phenomenon. Foreign traders incur costs in trading assets with domestic agents, and a collateral constraint limits external debt to a fraction of the market value of domestic equity holdings. When this constraint does not bind, sta...
متن کاملMonetary policy, doubts and asset prices
Asset prices and the equity premium might reflect doubts and pessimism. Introducing these features in an otherwise standard New-Keynesian model changes in a quite substantial way its normative conclusions. First, following productivity shocks, optimal policy should be very accommodative even to the point to inflate the equity premium. Second, asset-price movements improve the inflation-output t...
متن کاملThe Macroeconomic Effects of Asset Price Shocks in a Globalized Financial Market
This paper studies a model where shocks to asset prices affect the real sector of the economy through a credit channel. As financial markets become internationally integrated, the economy becomes less vulnerable to domestic asset price shocks, but more vulnerable to foreign asset price shocks. To the extent that monetary policy stabilization is feasible and desirable, the globalization of finan...
متن کاملAsset Prices, Liquidity, and Monetary Policy in the Search Theory of Money
The author presents a search-based model in which money coexists with equity shares on a risky aggregate endowment. Agents can use equity as a means of payment, so shocks to equity prices translate into aggregate liquidity shocks that disrupt the mechanism of exchange. The author characterizes a family of optimal monetary policies and finds that the resulting equity prices are independent of mo...
متن کاملThe Volatility of the Firm’s Assets
This paper investigates the conditional volatility of the firm’s assets in contrast to existing studies that focus primarily on equity volatility. Using a novel dataset that allows us to map out significant portions of the capital structure, we examine the volatility properties of asset returns as calculated by a weighted average of equity, bond and loan prices. The two fundamental findings in ...
